The MATADOR brand looks back on a long tradition. In 1905, the MATADOR rubber and balata works were founded in Bratislava, and the first MATADOR tyre was produced there in 1925. Since 1987, the company has had its own research institute. In 1990 the state-owned company was transformed into a joint-stock company and privatised in 1994. Since 1993, production in Puchov has again been carried out under the MATADOR brand.

In 1998, MATADOR and the CONTINENTAL AG Hanover signed an agreement on the foundation of a joint venture to produce truck tyres with headquarters in Puchov/Slovakia.
